Clinical Information System Questionnaire
CISQ-ER
The
Clinical Information System Questionnaire - Emergency Room (CISQ-ER) is under
development. Joanne Bouma, Brian
Gugerty and Powhatan
Wooldridge are developing the CISQ-ER to evaluate staff satisfaction with
implementation of an Emergency Room Clinical Information System are developing
this tool. The grounded theory used
to develop the CISQ-36 that resulted at this point has
resulted in six sub-dimensions - Training; Ownership; Practice; Technical
Difficulties; Teamwork and General Satisfaction- serve as the framework for CISQ-ER
development. We are taking the
items from the CISQ-36 that are applicable to the ER
and modifying the wording to reflect this different care environment.
In a few cases CISQ-36 items are not
appropriate for inclusion in the CISQ-ER and in several cases new items are
being created for testing.
Previous
administrations of the CISQ family of tools were post implementation of a CIS.
The CISQ-ER is being developed with two forms: the CISQ-ER Pre and the
CISQ-ER Post. The CISQ-ER Pre will be administered before the staff are
thoroughly trained on the Emergency Room Clinical Information System and before
the systems is implemented. The
CISQ-ER Post will be administered after implementation of the Emergency Room
Clinical Information System. Care
is being taken to allow comparison of the corresponding pre and post items so
that equivalency of elicited concepts is maintained to the greatest extent
possible. An example of a CISQ-ER
Pre item is "The Emergency Room Clinical Information System will free me up
to spend more time on patient care." An
example a CISQ-ER Post item is "The Emergency Room Clinical Information
System frees me up to spend more time on patient care."
This will allow computation of change scores on an item, sub-dimension
and total scale basis for the CISQ-ER upon the very first administration post
implementation.
The
CISQ-ER will be administered in conjunction with four Emergency Room CIS implementations
in the Calgary, Alberta, Canada region in 2001 and 2002.
